New editions of Lonely Planet's bestselling Japan guidebooks

This month sees the release of new editions of Lonely Planet's Japan and Experience Japan - proudly recognised as the world's bestselling guides to Japan. (Source: ACNielsen (UK, Australia) & Circana (US), January 2025 – December 2025.)

The launch comes as Japan's popularity reaches unprecedented heights. The country welcomed a record 42.7 million international visitors in 2025, the highest annual total ever recorded.

A favourable exchange rate has also made Japan an even more attractive destination for travellers from the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand, with the comparatively weak yen delivering greater value on the ground.

Alongside the flagship titles Japan 19 and Experience Japan 3, Lonely Planet is expanding its Japan range with first-ever editions of Hokkaido and Okinawa & the Southwest Islands, giving travellers dedicated guides to two of Japan's most sought-after regions. From Hokkaido's world-famous powder snow, national parks and food culture to Okinawa's tropical beaches, island adventures and unique Ryukyu heritage, these new guidebooks reflect growing demand for travel beyond Japan's classic Golden Route.
