Dymocks Travel Bookseller of the Year Award
Terms & Conditions
Lonely Planet will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023 and we want to thank and reward our hard working booksellers for their support of our brand and of the category. As the travel category rebounds, Lonely Planet wants to award the booksellers who have gone above and beyond in servicing the category and customers.
Eligibility: Any Dymocks owner, manager or employee may nominate any other Dymocks employee or staff member for this award. Nominations are open to all staff members, including casual and part-time roles. Nominees must be at least 16 years of age and employees of a Dymocks company or franchise store both at the time of the nomination and at the time of the awards ceremony at the Dymocks Annual Conference in 2023 (date and location to be determined). Dymocks employees who are themselves officers, directors, or employees of Lonely Planet, or who are family members (spouse, parent, child or sibling) or household members (living at the same address for three or more months per year) of officers, directors or employees of Lonely Planet are not eligible for this award. Lonely Planet reserves the right to request entrants to provide proof of age, identity, employment status or any other matter relevant to an entrant's nomination.
Nomination Process: Nominations will be open from 6:00am Australian Western Standard Time ("AWST") on February 20, 2023, until 9pm AWST on June 30, 2023. Access this Google form and complete all required fields, then submit your nomination by the deadline. Nomination form will
require the name, position, e-mail address, and store name and postal address of the person submitting the nomination, as well as the name, position, e-mail address, store name and postal address of the nominee. The person submitting the nomination must also answer at least two questions about the nominee: (1) “How has this individual championed the travel section in your store?” and (2) “How has this individual used their product knowledge, specifically of travel guides, to assist with meeting customer travel guide needs?” There will also be a field for any additional comments about the nominee and why this employee deserves this award. You must complete and submit a separate nomination form for each employee being nominated. There is no limit on the number of nominations an employee may submit, except that duplicate nominations of the same nominee by the same employee will be disregarded. Multiple employees from a store may submit separate nominations for the same employee. All nominations must be received no later than 9:00 pm AWST on June 30, 2023. The server hosting the Google form is the official time clock for the time of receipt of nominations. Each Dymocks store manager will receive a link to the Google form to share with employees interested in making nominations. Entry is free.
By submitting a nomination, you represent and affirm that all information in the nomination form is accurate and complete, and reflects your own true opinion and assessment of the performance of the nominee based on your own experience and observations. Where incorrect or incomplete personal or contact details are entered in the nomination form, that entry will be deemed invalid. All persons submitting nominations hereby grant to Lonely Planet and Dymocks a perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable,
royalty-free license in and to all rights in your answers set out in the nomination form, so that Lonely Planet and Dymocks have the right to use, not use, edit, paraphrase, reproduce, communicate, adapt and otherwise create derivative works from the answers submitted in the nomination form about the
nominee if the nominee is selected as an award winner (including runner-ups) in any and all media, worldwide, without limitation or further obligation to you or any other party, and, to the extent permitted by law, all employees submitting nominations further waive any moral rights they may have to the materials in the nomination form(s) and otherwise consent to any act or omission in connection with the rights granted to Lonely Planet above by Lonely Planet or its nominees that may otherwise constitute an infringement of any such moral rights.
Selection of Award Winners: A panel of judges from Dymocks and from Lonely Planet as selected by Lonely Planet will review all nominations and will select one (1) overall “Travel Bookseller of the Year” award winner and five (5) runners-up award winners, with one runner-up winner from each state/region (WA, SA, QLD, NSW/ACT, and VIC/TAS), based on the strength of all the answers and information about the nominee on the nomination form(s). Winners will be notified by a Lonely Planet representative using the contact details provided in the nomination form at least two weeks prior to the Dymocks Annual Conference (“Conference”) so that they can make plans to attend, however, the winners will only be formally announced at the Conference itself. Dymocks may also use its Daily Bulletin to share news of the winners among its stores after the Conference. Attendance at the Conference is not required in order to receive the award, but is strongly encouraged.
Awards: One (1) 2023 Dymocks Travel Bookseller of the Year Award winner will receive a AU$2500 travel voucher from Flight Centre. Award voucher will expire three years following issuance (shortly before the Conference) and is subject to all terms and conditions generally applicable thereto. See flightcentre.com.au for details. Award winner is solely responsible for all costs and expenses of any travel that are not covered by the Flight Centre voucher.
Each runner-up award winner will receive a Lonely Planet book prize pack valued at AU$250 RRP (recommended retail price) inclusive of GST. Runner-up award winners may select any current, in print Lonely Planet titles at the time of the Dymocks Conference and will need to send their chosen lists of books and their current Australian home shipping address via e-mail to sales@lonelyplanet.com.au within two weeks from the date of the awards ceremony at the Conference. Books will be shipped to the Australian home addresses of each Runner-up award winner within two weeks of submission of the list. Failure to submit a list of selected titles within the timeframe will result in forfeiture of the book prize pack, in which case there will be no compensation or substitution of award.
General Conditions: Awards are subject to all local, state and national laws and regulations and are void where prohibited. Incomplete, garbled, late, or non-responsive nominations will be disqualified. If you submit a nomination using a mobile device, standard data charges may apply from your carrier. There shall be no cash in lieu of awards or substitution of awards. Awards are not transferable. Award winners are solely responsible for any taxes or other fees imposed as a result of winning the award.
Limit one award per employee. If there were to be only one nomination from a particular state and if that nominee were to win the Travel Bookseller of the Year Award across all nominations, then the runner-up award for that state would remain unawarded.

Award winners expressly release Lonely Planet from any and all liability for any damages of any kind related in any way to the nomination process and/or the award. Lonely Planet reserves the right to suspend, modify, cancel or postpone the nomination process and/or the award in the event that the process is not capable of running as anticipated for any reason. In the event of a cancellation, Lonely Planet reserves the right to select award winners from among nominations received prior to the cancellation, if any, or to cancel the award altogether, in its sole discretion.
